All About Gram Scales

Return to Gram Scales

Gram scales are useful in many different situations.

They can handle the most weight (how much depends on the scale) and the most uses.

Gram scales tend to have multiple weighing modes, it is good to know what kind of measurement you would like and purchase a scale which has that as an option.

Jewelers use Gram scales to measure the precise metric weight of gold, silver, precious metals or rare coins.

Big jewelry pieces, as well as a small jewel can be weighed on the same scale.

Because of their high capacity, most scales will come with convenient trays or bowls to keep smaller pieces in.

The Tare function is common with this type of scale.  Almost every Gram Scale on our Gram Scale Page will contain this function because it is so useful.  It allows you to place a bowl or tray onto the weighing platform, then set the weight back to zero so that the weight of the container does not effect your measurements.

Depending on the scale, a precise count of pieces can be determined (see Jennings' CJ-300/600 ).

Diabetics or Dieters can use this type of scale to measure out food proportions.

Table-top versions are also very useful in Laboratories.

They can also be used to weigh packages to determine correct postage.

Certain variations come in a pocket size for easy transportation.

These are by-far the most useful and popular type of scale.
